Training: How To Run a Good Troop Meeting

posted Mar 21, 2014, 7:24 PM by Abdul Rashid Abdullah   [ updated Mar 21, 2014, 7:25 PM ]

As-Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh

Every week we during our regularly scheduled Troop Meeting, we wil conduct a 20-30 minute training.  The training is intended to help Train ALL of our Parents and Adult Leaders with the aim of improving our Troop Program.

This week's presentation is entitled "How to Run a Good Troop Meeting".

Do boys join Scouting just to attend troop meetings? The answer is probably no. Ask them and they’ll say they joined to have fun, set out on adventures, make friends, learn new skills, and explore the outdoors.

Troop meetings can be the catalyst that makes all of that possible for boys, but for that to happen, the meetings must be fast-paced, interesting, and varied. They need to lead toward exciting troop activities in the outdoors. They need to be the glue that holds a troop together.  They can be all of that and more. During this presentation, we’ll talk about what a Scoutmaster can do to ensure the success of troop meetings.

Please join us at 6:15 PM, on 23 March 2014, at the ICNVT Classroom.

Goshen Training Opportunities for Leaders

Good morning Unit Leaders and Parents,

Here is an update on the adult training opportunities at Goshen. We are excited to be able to offer both Wilderness First Aid and CPR/AED certifications. We need to have at least 8 people for the course to run, so please show us you are interested by signing-up and making a payment as soon as possible. Thank you for wanting to get trained and certified!

Wilderness First Aid Training (for adults) – Taught by the Center For Wilderness Safety

If you are interested, have your Goshen coordinator register you for this course through the Goshen online system. Participants will be in classWednesday, Thursday, and Friday during all three program times each day (9-noon, 1-5, 7-9pm), and however will be free during meals and siesta times. There course tuition is $70 per person and results in a two year Wilderness First Aid certification through the American Red Cross. Those planning to take this must have a current CPR certification as a prerequisite (a CPR/AED course is available each week prior to the Wilderness First Aid course; however separate enrollment is required). The certification must be from one of the following ECC recognized organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Assn., ASHI, ECSI.

To register for this class, simply have your Goshen coordinator enroll you through the Goshen website, register.gotogoshen.org. For any questions, please contact the Center for Wilderness Safety at (888) 945-3402 or visit www.wildsafe.org/WFA.

New CPR Training, Opportunity at Goshen

Due to an overwhelming amount of expressed interest, we have added a Red Cross Adult CPR/AED course for adult leaders; also taught by the Center for Wilderness Safety. There will be one class held each week of camp. The exact day and time of the class is yet to be determined. The cost is $75 per person and results in a two year Red Cross certification. As far as registration goes, the CPR/AED courses will be first come – first served. Please note that unfortunately registration and payment for this course is NOT available through the Goshen website.

To register for this class, please call the Center for Wilderness Safety directly by calling (888) 945-3402 or visit www.wildsafe.org/goshen.
